Our Philosophy

At The Literacy Barn, we believe every child is unique and every child's learning pathway is individualized.  We believe that the development of reading, writing, and speaking skills are tightly interwoven.  We also believe that literacy skills are not innately learned for all children.  Therefore, we believe in careful assessment of every child's individual development in literacy for the purpose of creating individualized  learning programs, provided by experts in speech, language, reading, and writing.​

 

But equally important, we believe that learning is a personally engaging process built on safe and nurturing relationships.  We believe that no meaningful learning will take place without a comfortable environment that allows for creativity, risk-taking, and exploration.  We also believe that skill based learning happens in conjunction with emotional and mental learning.  Therefore, we believe in a holistic approach that takes into consideration the entirety of a child while growing literacy skills.  

Why that makes us different

At The Literacy Barn, we utilize a team approach to evaluate and assess each child and create a program plan that may encompass multiple areas of need with multiple professionals.  Our professionals draw on a variety of resources, therapeutic, and intervention programs to custom design a program around each individual student.  We also  partner with families, educators, and outside providers to ensure each child is surrounded by a community of support.
